The Fitzhugh is a weekly newspaper serving the Jasper, Alberta area.
The Fitzhugh formerly billed itself as Jasper's independent, locally owned newspaper.
[2] In 2012 it was sold to Aberdeen Publishing Limited Partnership of British Columbia, and then sold again in 2023 to Alberta's Great West Media, so it is no longer locally owned nor truly independent.
The paper's name comes from what the town of Jasper was once called, Fitzhugh, named after the general manager and vice president of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway.
[5] Similarly, the Jasper Local (which started in 2013) published its last print edition on November 15, 2021 although it continues as a web-based app that delivers news and commentary.
