[2][3] She served on the Provincial Council of Groningen, including as parliamentary leader, and she first ran for the House of Representatives in the 2010 general election as D66's eighteenth candidate.
[7] She was appointed State Secretary for Culture and Media on 12 January 2024 as part of the demissionary fourth Rutte cabinet.
Gunay Uslu had resigned in December 2023 to become CEO of Corendon and had been succeeded by Steven van Weyenberg.
However, Van Weyenberg switched to the position of Minister of Finance the following month, leaving the state secretarial vacancy for Gräper to fill.
