It was the first newspaper established for the Romanian minority of post-Trianon Hungary[1] and it is the one with the longest and widest level of circulation within the country.
[2] Foaia Românească was founded by the Cultural Union of the Romanians of Hungary in the summer of 1950 and was originally known as Libertatea Noastră ("Our Freedom").
The new staff attempted to be as close to the readership as possible and get as many subscribers as possible, reaching an all-time high of 1,500 in the mid-80s, with hundreds of these being in Romania.
[1] Since the early 2000s, it refers to itself as "the only Romanian-language newspaper focused on the problems of the Romanians of Hungary".
[2] As of 2011, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper was Eva Iova Șimon, also the director of Editura NOI ("US Publishing House") seated in Gyula as well, where she was born on 7 April 1970.
