François Barbeau

François Barbeau CM (July 27, 1935 – January 28, 2016) was an award-winning Canadian costume designer.

He was a professor at the National Theatre School of Canada and the Université du Québec à Montréal who worked on over 700 productions in Quebec and around the world.

[1] After taking sewing in high school, he began his career in the 1950s at the theatre The Caravan of Paul Buissonneau.

[3] In film, Barbeau mentored fellow-costume designer and Genie winner Louise Jobin.

[4] In 1996, he received the Governor General's Award, and in 2000 he joined the Order of Canada.
