France Cukjati (born February 15, 1943) is a Slovenian politician, physician, theologian, and former Jesuit.
His father fell in World War II as a member of the Yugoslav Partisan resistance, and his mother was a local schoolteacher.
In June 2000, he was named secretary at the Ministry of Health in the short-lived center-right government of Andrej Bajuk.
In a parliamentary debate, he has stated that homosexuality should not be considered normal, but a psychological problem that should receive treatment.
[3] Despite these opinions, Cukjati has supported the legalization of same-sex civil unions that grant notably fewer rights than marriage, passed by the right-wing parliamentary majority in 2005.
