Carideo served as the head football coach at the University of Missouri from 1932 to 1934, compiling a record of 2–23–2.
He was also the head basketball coach at Mississippi State University from 1935 to 1939, tallying a mark of 43–39.
He attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where he played quarterback for coach Knute Rockne's Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team from 1928 to 1930.
During the 1929 and 1930 seasons, the Fighting Irish posted a perfect 19–0 record with him as the starter, and he is remembered as a "big play maker."
