It had a capacity of 12,000 and was built in 1902 with donations given by Greek Cypriot Nicosians.
The Cyprus national football team had also played home games there in the past.
It was located at the centre of Nicosia and often used for large music concerts as well.
Plans to redevelop the area as a pedestrian site are expected to cost about €20 million and are due to be completed in 2024.
