Located in the eastern part of the county along the Ohio River, it borders the following townships: Mason County, West Virginia, lies across the Ohio River to the southeast.
It is located midway between the county's five other Ohio River townships.
The city of Gallipolis, the county seat and largest municipality of Gallia County, occupies most of southern and eastern Gallipolis Township.
[4] The name Gallipolis combines Latin and Greek words meaning "French city".
[5] The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1.
