George Clive (Liberal politician)

George Clive DL JP (October 1805 – 8 June 1880) was a British barrister, magistrate and Liberal politician.

He was educated at Harrow and Brasenose College, Oxford, and was called to the Bar, Lincoln's Inn, in 1830.

Clive was appointed a Revising Barrister for Droitwich before 1837[1] and became a Police Magistrate of London between 1839 and 1847.

He served under Lord Palmerston as Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department from 1859 to 1862.

Clive married Ann Sybella Martha, daughter of Sir Thomas Harvie Farquhar, 2nd Baronet, in 1835.
