McCaa was born on March 8, 1884, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
He also played basketball and baseball, and ran track.
He began the 1911 season as head football coach at New Hampshire,[2] but resigned after three games to become supervisor of athletics and assistant football coach at Lafayette.
[3] He served as head football coach at Lafayette during 1912 and 1913, and at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, during 1914 and 1915.
McCaa died at the age of 76 on November 28, 1960, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
