Gerald Barry (Irish journalist)

[1] Barry started working for RTÉ News during the 1970s, reporting on events such as the Falklands War and the political careers of taoisigh Garret FitzGerald and Charles Haughey.

[3] He spent 11 years as deputy editor of and political correspondent for the Sunday Tribune from 1983 onwards.

[2] He edited and presented This Week on RTÉ Radio 1 until one year before his death from a series of brain haemorrhages[4] resulting from an illness at the age of 63 in 2011.

[2] His death led to numerous political tributes, including from Garret FitzGerald and party leaders Eamon Gilmore, Gerry Adams and Micheál Martin,[2] as well as from broadcasters Vincent Browne[1] and Sam Smyth.

[5] Barry organised the Tom Kettle seminar which, in 2006, turned out to be Conor Cruise O'Brien's last public speaking appearance.
