The area of the district is 341.9 square kilometers (132.0 sq mi).

[2] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Gergebil.

[3] Within the framework of administrative divisions, Gergebilsky District is one of the forty-one in the Republic of Dagestan.

[1] The district is divided into four selsoviets which comprise sixteen rural localities.

[5] Its four selsoviets are incorporated as ten rural settlements within the municipal district.
