Gieten is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe.
It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 14 km east of Assen.
[3] Gieten is an esdorp which developed in the Early Middle Ages on the Hondsrug as a satellite of Anloo.
The former village Bonnen was located to the east and contained the havezate Entinge from 1648 until its demolition in 1768.
[6] Gieten was a separate municipality until 1998, when it became a part of Aa en Hunze.
