Givrins

Givrins is a municipality in the district of Nyon in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

[3] Givrins has an area, as of 2009[update], of 4 square kilometers (1.5 sq mi).

Of the rest of the land, 0.54 km2 (0.21 sq mi) or 13.6% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.01 km2 (2.5 acres) or 0.3% is either rivers or lakes.

[5] The municipality is located on a small knoll at the foot of the Jura Mountains.

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Argent, on a Coupeaux Vert a Pine-tree of the same.

[9] Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks French (627 or 76.2%), with English being second most common (83 or 10.1%) and German being third (82 or 10.0%).

[10] The age distribution, as of 2009[update], in Givrins is; 113 children or 12.4% of the population are between 0 and 9 years old and 129 teenagers or 14.2% are between 10 and 19.

[9] There were 394 residents of the municipality who were employed in some capacity, of which females made up 41.1% of the workforce.

In the tertiary sector; 8 or 11.8% were in wholesale or retail sales or the repair of motor vehicles, 5 or 7.4% were in a hotel or restaurant, 2 or 2.9% were in the information industry, 3 or 4.4% were the insurance or financial industry, 15 or 22.1% were technical professionals or scientists, 7 or 10.3% were in education and 2 or 2.9% were in health care.

[9] From the 2000 census[update], 197 or 23.9% were Roman Catholic, while 402 or 48.8% belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church.

In the Vaud cantonal school system, two years of non-obligatory pre-school are provided by the political districts.

The canton's primary school program requires students to attend for four years.
