It is part of the Glen Innes Severn Shire Council local government area.

[1] Glencoe is located on the New England Highway around 22 kilometres (14 mi) south of Glen Innes.

A sports ground is located on the northern side of the village, along with a fossicking area, to the south, on the creek.

[2] The main industry of the area is sheep and beef cattle breeding with some mining and a vineyard.

Glencoe is served by community radio station 2CBD FM which broadcasts from studios in Glen Innes.
