Its seat is the village of Krupski Młyn, which lies approximately 23 kilometres (14 mi) north-west of Tarnowskie Góry and 45 km (28 mi) north-west of the regional capital Katowice.
The district covers an area of 39.42 square kilometres (15.2 sq mi), and as of 2019 its total population is 3,175.
The major industrial establishment in the area is NITRON S.A., a company specializing in production of explosives.
The reconstructed Kruppamühle der Lignose Sprengstoffwerke GmbH employed 300 in 1929 and 750 in 1944.
Nowadays, the plant essentially consists of a system of bunkers in a forest, with strong walls but light roofs.
