Gościce

Gościce (Polish: [ɡɔɕˈt͡ɕit͡sɛ]) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Paczków, within Nysa County, Opole Voivodeship, in south-western Poland, close to the Czech border, where neighboring Horní Hoštice is located.

The village was first mentioned in the Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis from around 1295, when it was part of the Duchy of Nysa within fragmented Piast-ruled Poland.

After the 18th-century Silesian Wars, the newly drawn border divided the village in two.

After the defeat of Germany in the war, in 1945, the village became again part of Poland and its historic name was restored.

The division between Gościce and Horní Hoštice continued through the Communist era of 1945–1990, and the border was not easily crossed until the Poland and Czechia joined the Schengen Area in 2007.
