Hénin-Beaumont

Hénin-Beaumont (French pronunciation: [enɛ̃ bomɔ̃]; Picard: Hinnin-Biaumont) is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of Franc[3] about 6 miles (9.7 km) east of Lens.

[4] During World War I on the night of 3-4 October 1914, the Germans blew up the church of Saint-Martin, which was rebuilt in Greco-Byzantine style in 1932.

[citation needed] In the 2009 election to replace the incumbent Socialist mayor who had resigned after a corruption scandal, the National Front took first place in the first round with 39% of the vote.

[7] In the first round of the 2012 presidential election, Marine Le Pen won in Hénin-Beaumont, with 35% of the vote, ahead of François Hollande (27%) and Nicolas Sarkozy (16%).
