Høyland

[4] On 6 April 1861, the large village of Sandnes (population: 440) was declared to be a ladested (seaport town).

[5] On 1 January 1965, there were many municipal changes across Norway due to the recommendations of the Schei Committee.

[5] The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old Høiland farm (Old Norse: Hœland) since the first Høyland Church was built there.

On 3 November 1917, a royal resolution changed the spelling of the name of the municipality to Høyland.

[8] The municipal council (Herredsstyre) of Høyland was made up of 41 representatives that were elected to four year terms.
