HD 196050 is a triple star[9][3] system located in the southern constellation of Pavo.
[2] It is located at a distance of 165 light-years (51 parsecs) from the Sun based on parallax, and is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +61 km/s.
It is around 2.5 billion years old with a higher than solar metallicity, and is spinning with a projected rotational velocity of 3 km/s.
[5] The star is radiating 2.21[6] times the luminosity of the Sun from its photosphere at an effective temperature of 5,834 K.[6] A faint co-moving companion star, designated component B, was detected based on observations during 2003–2004,[9] located 10.80″[3] to the south of the primary component.
[11] The discovery was independently confirmed by the Geneva Extrasolar Planet Search team.
