Hameda Ben Amor[1][2] (Arabic: حمادة بن عمر; born 7 October 1989), better known by his stage name El General (الجنرال), is a Tunisian rap musician.
The songs were previously kept underground by the strict censorship of the autocratic regime of Tunisian president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
[1] Ben Amor's “President of the Country,” a searing Arabic rap song, served as a soundtrack for the revolution.
The week before Mohamed Bouazizi’s death, Hamada Ben Amor used a handheld camera to tape himself singing the song, a baseball cap pulled over his eyes.
[3] After the overthrow of Ben Ali, his songs enjoyed enormous popularity in Tunisia, particularly "Rais Lebled" which became known as the anthem of the revolution and gained him international recognition.
