Hans-Jürgen Thies (born 11 August 1955) is a German lawyer and politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) who has been serving as a member of the Bundestag from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2017.
After graduating from high school in 1974, he served for two years as a temporary soldier with the Army Aviation Corps.
He then began his studies in law at the University of Göttingen, followed by a legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Celle.
Since 1985, he has been practicing as a lawyer, initially working alone at the Higher Regional Court of Hamm, specializing in agricultural and real estate law.
From 1985 to 2018, he was a partner in a large law firm in Hamm and has published numerous legal textbooks and articles.
