Harshaw Chapel and Cemetery

[4] Joshua Harshaw, a prominent early settler in the area and slaveholder, purchased the property during the sale of Native American land in 1838.

[3] The chapel was built out of locally-made brick in the vernacular Greek Revival style and has a pinewood floor.

In December 2019, the chapel's steeple was removed and roof covered until funds could be raised to make repairs.

[7][10] The steeple, bell, and other church furnishings were moved to an adjacent Cherokee Scout newspaper building for storage, where they remained as of 2025.

The Scout reports that an effort to rebuild the church's roof and steeple, and reinstall the bell, is expected to start by mid-2025 so the chapel can reopen to the public by the end of the year.
