Hashtrud (Persian: هشترود)[a] is a city in the Central District of Hashtrud County, East Azerbaijan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district.
The castle was inhabited by various Persian dynasties until the Timurid era.
[citation needed] Before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, a census report recalls that Hashtrud was home to roughly 10 Jewish families.
[6] At the time of the 2006 National Census, the city's population was 18,418 in 4,493 households.
