Hemne Church

It is the church for the Hemne parish which is part of the Orkdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros.

Descriptions of the altarpiece in the old church were dated to the Late Middle Ages.

During the 17th and 18th centuries, the church was expanded by building timber-framed transepts to create a cruciform floor plan.

Each church parish was a constituency that elected people called "electors" who later met together in each county to elect the representatives for the assembly that was to meet at Eidsvoll Manor later that year.

Construction on the wooden, octagonal building began in March 1816 and was completed and consecrated on 29 June 1817.
