Henry Erskine (lawyer)

The Honourable Henry Erskine (1 November 1746 – 8 October 1817) was a Scottish advocate and British Whig politician.

[1] His elder sister was Lady Anne Agnes Erskine who was involved with the evangelical methodists of Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion.

[3] He was described as "a tall and rather slender figure, a face sparkling with vivacity, a clear sweet voice, and general suffusion of elegance".

[5] Robert Burns wrote a ballad memorializing the vote entitled, "The Dean of Faculty".

[6][7] In 1788, Erskine had the unenviable task of defending the celebrated Edinburgh thief Deacon Brodie.

[8] In 1795 he was living at 68 Princes Street facing Edinburgh Castle[9] having moved there from George Square.
