Herbert Meredith Marler

Sir Herbert Meredith Marler KCMG PC (March 7, 1876 – January 31, 1940) was a Canadian politician and diplomat.

He was promoted to Cabinet as Minister without portfolio in 1925 only to lose his seat shortly after in the 1925 federal election.

Liberal Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King held Marler in high regard and appointed him Canada's first envoy to Japan.

He focused his attention on building Canadian trade with Japan and China touring both countries extensively.

Upon returning from Japan in 1936, he was appointed Envoys Extraordinary and Ministers Plenipotentiary of Canada to the United States of America and served in that capacity until 1939.
