The title refers to the Hesperides, nymphs of the evening in Greek mythology.
Hesperides includes "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time", which features the famous lines: It also includes "Corinna's Going a-Maying",[3] which includes the lines: Furthermore, Hesperides includes “Upon Julia’s Clothes”,[4] which features one of the most famous phrases in English literature: The collection gives its name to the literary society of Trinity Hall, Cambridge, where Herrick was a student.
