The High Court started functioning near Akashwani, Navrangpura, Ahmedabad.

The High Court had later shifted to the new building at Sarkhej - Gandhinagar Highway, Sola, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from 16 January 1999.

However, the president is required to consult the Governor of Gujarat and the Chief Justice of India before making such appointment.
