High Ongar is a village and civil parish in the County of Essex, England.
The village of High Ongar has existed since the beginning of the 17th century, although in the Middle Ages, it was probably no more than a tiny hamlet.
[2] The oldest surviving house in the village is the timber-framed and weather-boarded building immediately east of the church, known as Post Office Cottages.
The most prominent building within High Ongar's Conservation Area is the parish church of St. Mary the Virgin, which is listed as Grade I.
