Hirut Woldemariam

[2] Hirut Woldemariam was born in Debre Markos, Gojjam,[3] Ethiopia from her father Woldemariam Teketel, from Kambata, and her mother Brehane Mekonen, from Debre Marqos.

[4] She has received both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Linguistics from Addis Ababa University and her Doctor of Philosophy in Linguistics from the University of Cologne, Institute of African Studies.

[1][2] She is a professor in the Department of Linguistics and Philology, College of Humanities, Journalism and Communication of the Addis Ababa University.

She also served as a Head, Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities, Addis Ababa University (2006–2008).
