Historic Strawberry Mansion is a summer home in East Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.
[1] Lewis purchased land in what is now Fairmount Park, including some existing buildings, and built the mansion sometime between 1783 and 1789.
His family was responsible for adding the Greek Revival wings to the Federal style structure erected by Lewis, c. 1828.
The purchase of the mansion, along with a great deal of the surrounding land, was part of an effort to protect the source of the city's drinking water, the Schuylkill River.
In 1926, several women's clubs combined efforts with Mayor W. Freeland Kendrick to create a Sesquicentennial Exposition in South Philadelphia in honor of the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
