Hof Church

It is the church for the Hof parish which is part of the Solør, Vinger og Odal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar.

The red brick church was built in a cruciform design in 1860 using plans drawn up by the architect Christian Heinrich Grosch.

[1][2] Hof Church (whose name refers to an heathen temple) serves the southern part of what is now Åsnes municipality in Solør, with a church on the west side of the river Glomma, although the river actually changed course in the area around the year 1450.

Previously the church was on the east side before the river broke through its boundaries and changed course.

Around the year 1600, the old stave church was heavily renovated and enlarged, leaving little of the original structure remaining.

Each church parish was a constituency that elected people called "electors" who later met together in each county to elect the representatives for the assembly that was to meet in Eidsvoll later that year.
