At Selb Untere Stadt this Lokalbahn line branched from the Cheb–Oberkotzau railway that went to Asch and Franzensbad over the border.

The 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) long section from Selb-Stadt via Höchstädt-Thierstein to Holenbrunn was finally closed in 1986.
