Holstein is a village in Adams County, Nebraska, United States.
Holstein was platted in 1887 when the Kansas City and Omaha Railroad was extended to that point.
[5][6] A large portion of the early settlers being natives of Germany and Denmark caused the name Holstein, after Schleswig-Holstein, to be selected.
[7][8] According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.23 square miles (0.60 km2), all land.
36.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
About 6.7% of families and 10.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.5% of those under the age of eighteen and 31.7% of those 65 or over.
