On 27 May, Honduras played Argentina away for the first time in a friendly game where they faced superstar Lionel Messi who had to leave the match early due to a back injury.

Honduras started 2017 playing at Panama City against Nicaragua for the 2017 Copa Centroamericana,[5] a cup which they eventually won, representing their 4th regional title.
