Honobia, Oklahoma

Until statehood the area was part of Wade County in the Apukshunnubbee District of the Choctaw Nation.

[4] Although the national capital and its stately Choctaw Capitol Building were located only 32 miles away, at Tuskahoma, Honobia was (and remains) isolated.

During recent years, the Choctaw Nation has improved transportation in the Honobia area significantly by constructing a paved, all-weather road over the mountains from U.S. Highway 271 near Albion south over the steep mountain range to Honobia.

Most of the areas to the North and South of Honobia are vast tree plantations owned by timber companies.

More information on Honobia and the Little River valley may be found in the Pushmataha County Historical Society.
