Houston Graduate School of Theology was founded in 1983 by Dr. Delbert Vaughn and his wife, Carol.
For the first 15 years of its existence, the school was affiliated with the Evangelical Friends Church - Mid America.
It later moved to other properties: the Adams Petroleum Building in 1987 and Central Congregational Church in 1996.
In 2013, HGST moved to the Willow Meadows Baptist Church campus.
[2] In 2021, the school's director of DMin program, Dr. Becky Towne, became its fifth and final president, having determined that in 2023, HGST will become a Legacy Partner within Kairos, merging with the global consortium of theological schools.
