It is the church for the Hustad parish which is part of the Molde domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Møre.
The church is located on the Hustad farm which is mentioned in 1123 in the Soga om Magnussønene (the saga of the sons of Magnus) in the Heimskringla when the story tells about how King Øystein died suddenly at Hustad.
In 1718, a lightning strike caused the church to burn down and it took 20 years before it was replaced.
In the 1870s, the church was found to be too small for the congregation, so it was torn down and its materials were auctioned off.
The pulpit was sent to the Sandvig Collections (Sandvigske Samlinger) at the Nordic Museum in Maihaugen in Lillehammer.
