The smaller competition pool will also see athletes choose to represent Ireland to ensure greater Olympic qualification chances, although athletes may also move in the opposite direction to increase medal chances, especially in team events.

At the first Paralympic Games in 1960 in Rome Ireland were one of 23 nations to enter athletes.
