[8] Ahead of the Test, the England cricket team visited Ireland in May to play a one-off One Day International (ODI) match.

For England, Test debutants Olly Stone and Jason Roy, the latter who was part of the World Cup winning team, were among the players looking to find a place in the lineup for the Ashes series.
