Israel Meyer Augustine Jr.

Israel Meyer Augustine Jr. (16 November 1924 – 29 August 1994) was an American lawyer and the first Black district judge in Louisiana.

[1][2][3][4] In 1971, he presided over a trial of twelve Black Panthers members accused of the attempted murder of five New Orleans policemen.

[5][6] Augustine died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 1994, aged 69.
