[1] The Jackson Rooming House was one of the only places in Tampa where black travelers could find lodging, as they were not accepted in standard hotels of the day.
[2] During its time the Jackson House played host to several prominent entertainers, including Count Basie, Cab Calloway, James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, and Ray Charles.
[5] As of January 13, 2014, Todd Alan Clem, commonly known as Bubba the Love Sponge, planned to purchase this property and begin the restoration of the house.
[9] However, the foundation reported that in order to continue construction they would need to reach an agreement with the owners of the neighboring parking lot, 717 Parking, to allow 10-foot easements for fire code standards[10] After a year of negotiations, 717 continued to deny the Jackson foundation access to the property needed.
