He also played League football in England for Woolwich Arsenal and in Scotland for St Johnstone, Hibernian, Motherwell, Kilmarnock and Forfar Athletic.
[4] In his first season at Easter Road he was a part of the team which won the 1902–03 First Division title.
[6] He made just eight appearances during the early months of the 1904–05 season,[2] before falling out of favour and moving north to join divisional rivals Manchester City in March 1905.
[8] Buchan dropped out of favour during the 1910–11 season and returned to Scotland to finish his career with Motherwell, Kilmarnock, Forfar Athletic and a second spell with St Johnstone,[4] whom he later managed between 1920 and 1922.
[9] On 8 December 1915, during the second year of the First World War, Buchan attested as a reserve private in the Highland Light Infantry.
