James H. Gilbert (born March 11, 1947) is an American attorney who was a Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court from 1998 to 2004.
[1][3][4] Gilbert was also licensed to practice law in Wisconsin from 1984 to 2007 and before the United States Supreme Court in 1988.
[5] He was certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association from 1997 through 2003.
[1][2][3] He was appointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court to be Acting Chief Justice from August to September 2008 to hear a contested election case.
[6] Gilbert co-authored the Alternative Dispute Resolutions section of the Minnesota State Bar Association Civil Practice Deskbook from 2009-2024.
