Joe Lavender

On September 23, 1974, the Eagles played the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football in Philadelphia.

In the third quarter, Lavender scooped up a fumble at his own four-yard line and returned it 96 yards for a touchdown—the longest such play in Monday Night history.

Just six days later, Lavender recorded another defensive touchdown against the Baltimore Colts after picking off a Bert Jones pass and returning it 37 yards for the score.

Hampered by injuries, Lavender was replaced as a starter during the truncated 1982 season, by rookie Vernon Dean.

Lavender remained on the team as a backup, and the Redskins won Super Bowl XVII in his final game.
