The John Greenleaf Whittier Home is a historic house located at 86 Friend Street, Amesbury, Massachusetts.
It was the home of American poet and abolitionist John Greenleaf Whittier from 1836 until his death in 1892, and is now a nonprofit museum open to the public May 1 through October 31; an admission fee is charged.
The house was purchased by Whittier in 1836 to provide accommodation for himself as well as his mother, aunt, and sister Eliza.
[5] Lizzie's son, Greenleaf Pickard, in 1904 decided to live in the house, but made a series of additions in part to preserve the original portion used by Whittier.
[4] The west side of the house was also raised to a full two stories, and the kitchen ell was replaced by a two-story addition.
