The son of Sir John Mordaunt, he was born at Stratford-upon-Avon in December 1837.
[8] Mordaunt went into business with Thomas Ridley Oswald as a shipbuilder in Southampton in 1878, with the company being declared bankrupt in 1881.
[9] In addition to having served as a deputy lieutenant for Warwickshire, Mordaunt was also a justice of the peace for the county.
[10] He was married to Elizabeth Evelyn Cotes, with the couple having five children;[11] their three sons Eustace, Gerald and Henry all played first-class cricket.
