John Owens (American football)

John Wesley Owens (born January 10, 1980) is an American former professional football tight end.

Owens was also a member of the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, and Oakland Raiders.

Owens played high school football at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland as a tight end and defensive end, earning USA Today honorable mention All-American honors.

He was also a three-year starter in basketball, averaging 12.7 points and 13.9 rebounds per game his senior year.

He played in 15 games, starting eight, for the Lions in 2002, catching five passes for 49 yards and making one solo tackle.

Owens played in five games for the Saints in 2006, totaling four receptions for 44 yards and one solo tackle.

Owens appeared in all 16 games, starting seven, in 2008, catching eight passes for 56 yards and his only NFL touchdown.
