John Robbins House (Rocky Hill, Connecticut)

Normally attributed a construction date of 1767, it is considered one of the finest examples of brick Georgian architecture in the state.

[1] The John Robbins House stands in northeastern Rocky Hill, on the east side of Old Main Street just north of its junction with Matteson Avenue.

It is a 2+1⁄2-story masonry structure, built out of red brick supposedly fashioned from clay taken out of a local field.

The interior follows a central hall plan, with four rooms on each floor, and a ballroom space in the attic level.

The grandson is conventionally claimed to have built this house in 1767, at which time he was operating a tavern called The Duke of Cumberland.
